Doesn’t My Insurance Cover Bariatric Surgery?
Generally speaking, if you have bariatric benefits as part of your policy, a weight loss surgery procedure will be covered by insurance. Our team will help you verify your insurance benefits prior to meeting with one of our providers. We encourage you to check your own benefits as well by calling your insurance provider and asking if you have bariatric surgery coverage. You can also check with your employer for specific information about your policy. Costs of the procedure or surgery will vary depending on the site where the surgery occurs, the type of procedure, and how long you are required to stay in the hospital. During your initial appointment, our staff will go over procedure coverage with you and estimated out of pocket expenses.

Patients without Insurance or Bariatric Benefits
For patients with a bariatric exclusion in their policy, those who do not have insurance, and those who are seeking surgery outside the constraints of their insurance company, we offer many self-funded options for Bariatric Surgery. We have cash-pay programs for many different types of weight loss surgery as well as secondary, or revisional procedures. We also offer third-party financing options for those who would like to seek financial assistance for copays, deductibles, and cash-pay packages.
Our cash-pay packages include all costs associated with the pre-surgery office visits, facility fees, surgeon fee, anesthesia, overnight stay in a qualifying facility, and 13 months of follow-up care with your surgeon. Patients are also protected against the possible costs related to complications that could arise for up to 180 days following surgery. Patients must be medically cleared by their surgeon and medical team as well as anesthesia prior to surgery.
The IRS allows taxpayers undergoing weight loss surgery to deduct expenses for procedures, approved weight-loss drugs, and nutritional counseling. Deductions are allowed for uncompensated expenses of treatment of an individual if the cost is more than 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income. Talk to your tax professional or CPA about how tax deductions can help you and your weight loss surgery process. Medical Spending Accounts
Some or all of the costs associated with a weight loss program may be reimbursable if you have a healthcare spending account (FSA/HSA). Check first with your account administrator about your eligible expenses. Some services, supplements, or medications may require a letter of medical necessity. Be sure to talk with your accountant or financial advisor about how this could help you.
